The third and final POIESIS expert workshop focusing on trust in science took place in Paris on 23 and 24 June 2025. Organised collaboratively by the POIESIS teams from Berlin, London, and Paris, the event offered participants a great occasion for exchange and connection.
This concluding workshop, held within Work Package 1 (WP1) of the POIESIS project, brought together 20 survey experts on trust in science, representing diverse countries across Europe and beyond. Among the participants were many familiar faces from the first POIESIS expert workshop held in Berlin two years ago, but we also had new participants around the table, adding even more surveys to the discussion.
The agenda opened with an afternoon of presentations showcasing 14 different national and international surveys. These contributions provided a broad and diverse overview of how trust surveys approach, design, and interpret questions around trust in science today.
The second day offered space for more in-depth exchange. Three short inputs and following discussions allowed participants to tackle shared challenges — from how survey items are formulated, over methodological changes and what they imply, to the effects of disinformation on social media on public trust in science.
Throughout both days, participants shared advice, discussed experiences, and deepened connections within this expert community working on trust-related surveys. By continuing the groundwork started at the first meeting in Berlin, this event marks an important step towards building a European network dedicated to surveys on trust in science.
We want to thank all participants for their time, valuable input and the engaged discussions! We look forward to continuing this important exchange!
